Confirmation Preparation will begin on Wednesday, September 17th in the Cafeteria.
The Confirmation Preparation Process at St. Benilde:
In the archdiocese of New Orleans, baptized teens entering the 11th grade are eligible to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. This year, Confirmation preparation will be happening within the context of St. Benilde's Built Up Nights. These nights will take place monthly, from September to April, beginning at 6:00 PM. Individuals preparing for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and Communion, Confirmation, and OCIA candidates and catechumens will break into appropriate groups.
Confirmation formation will occur from 6-7:30 within the context of gender exclusive small groups led by two or more safe-environment trained adult mentors. Active participation in these sessions is essential; candidates must attend a minimum of six sessions to be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Candidates must also attend a mandatory Day of Service scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9:00 am. – 2:00 pm, and a Confirmation retreat, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9:00-4:00 pm.
Candidates will also attend a one-on-one interview with Fr. Mathew Johnston, the pastor, in March or April to determine their readiness to receive this important sacrament.
Registration forms and paperwork are due by Monday, September 15, 2025, along with the preparation fee (covering supplies, retreat, robes, etc.) of $90. Parents/guardians are expected to attend an introductory meeting on Wednesday, September 17, at 7:00 pm. in the Cafeteria.
