Rooted is St. Benilde's parish-wide faith formation program designed to enable individuals to interact with their faith in a personal and exciting way. It is for EVERY St. Benilde family - and EVERY person - regardless of their age or family situation. Because no matter who you are, you belong to a family AND you belong to our St. Benilde family.

Rooted is about personally encountering God's love for YOU by learning about salvation history--our family story--and how God's plan continues to take form today in the Catholic Church and through YOU.

Rooted Nights are the primary focus of our Rooted program, meant to bring together the entire parish family in an ongoing faith formation experience. These nights, which occur monthly from 5:00-7:30 PM, involve food, fun, formation, faith, and fellowship.

A typical ROOTED night is structured with three parts:

• The night begins with a whole group FUN INTRODUCTION to the theme or topic of the night.
• All those present break out into different groups based on their age. In each BREAKOUT group, all are formed regarding the same topic, but at their appropriate age levels.
• The night concludes with a FAMILY DINNER, providing participants an opportunity to discuss what they learned in their breakout session and grow in relationship with one another.

Who can participate in ROOTED?

EVERYONE! St. Benilde is a parish family made up of individuals and families from all walks and stages of life. Some of our families are mom, dad, and a school bus full of kids. Some of our families are grandparents whose families live far away. Some of our families are just getting started - single young adults, engaged couples, new parents getting ready for a baptism - and some of our families are separated or divorced parents. Some of our families are made up of grandparents bringing up their grandkids - and some of our families are adult children with elderly parents. Some of the folks who come to ROOTED nights are widows or widowers or single college students.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN THE JOURNEY, ROOTED nights are designed to have something for everyone. When you arrive, everyone gets a chance to see and experience the teaching for the night. Then we will break out into small groups specifically geared to your age group. Everyone gets the same teaching - but it's delivered in a manner appropriate to your particular stage in life.

How much does it cost?

The Bible asks a better question. Why are you spending your money on things that do not satisfy (Isaiah 55:2)? ROOTED nights are sponsored by people who really want you to know the story of God's love for you, so if you can offer a donation to help us cover materials and meals, GREAT! But if you can't - don't worry about it. We know somehow God's going to cover the cost. The most important part of ROOTED nights is that you come, because this is about growing more rooted as a family - AND YOU ARE PART OF THE ST. BENILDE FAMILY!

What is BUILT UP?

BUILT UP is the new name for our sacramental preparation programs (first Reconciliation & Communion; Confirmation; and RCIA). BUILT UP nights are a more focused level of ROOTED nights, designed for the preparation of specific sacraments. Just like ROOTED nights, they include a community meal and only happen once a month on Sunday following the 4 p.m. Mass. So, if you are part of BUILT UP, you ideally attend two nights a month (ROOTED nights & BUILT UP nights).

Who goes to BUILT UP nights?

• At least one parent/guardian and their child who is preparing for First Reconciliation & Holy Communion
• 11th graders preparing for Confirmation
• Families or individuals interested in coming fully into the Catholic Church through RCIA.

The success of our ROOTED & BUILT UP programs depends upon God’s grace and the generosity of LOTS of volunteers (called the "Garden Club"). We can never have enough volunteers and are always looking for individuals to help with food, serving, decorating, interceding, setting up, welcoming, pumping everyone up, leading small groups, and cleaning. Please consider volunteering your time to this amazing ministry, even if for just one night this year.
